In al-Andalus, the woman of the upper classes had a main obligation and that was to take care of her outward appearance, in order to please her husband, the only one authorized to see her fully. They were the most privileged women, the ones who could take care of their appearance. All the women went once a week to the public toilets as long as they had all their obligations fulfilled. The public baths were the place where different times and spaces were distributed for men and women.

In addition to washing, those who could afford it, received special care such as massages with creamy and odorous ointments as well as attention to the hair. Women used to have long, thick and very black hair. Even testimonies have come to us that assured that in Muslim Spain, women were shaved for aesthetic purposes.

In these baths, you could smell magnificent perfumes that flowed through their windows, being known to all the exceptional perfumes and essences of the Arab world. Thanks to the master perfumers, the women had different bottles, which they used on the various occasions of everyday life and really enjoyed the fragrance of sweets and intense aromas.

The Coquettishness of the Andalusian woman continued with the clothes she wore. It used to be brightly colored, the most luxurious were also embroidered with silver and gold threads, and the fabrics were tight to the waist and head covered.

In the same way, ornaments and accessories were very common that, as today, sought to highlight the beauty of women. The most common jewels were necklaces and bracelets made of precious stones. It is known that they frequently wore diadems or brooches of gold, silver and pearls.
